Lesser Spotted Woodpecker Concertina Card

Here is our smallest and rarest woodpecker, the male Lesser spotted woodpecker.  You can identify his sex by the red marking on his head. Only the size of a sparrow, you will be very lucky to spot him in the wild as he is also in decline. One way to help populations is to leave trees to remain after death as he nests in decaying wood.
